ABSTRACT

Pervious concrete also referred to as “no-fines concrete” or “porous concrete” is a special type of concrete with high porosity that allows water from precipitation and others sources to pass through it. Pervious concrete is traditionally used in parking areas, areas with light traffic and pedestrian walkways. Pervious concrete’s main advantage is its ability to filter storm water through its porous structure reducing the polluted runoff. Even though pervious concrete has been in use for many years, recently there has continued to gain acceptance as a sustainable material for construction for providing an efficient storm water management. This paper presents the main considerations to take into account to consider in the pervious concrete design, and advantage of using pervious concrete.
