Electroprecipitator chlorine bypass dust reclaiming facility dilution and press filter

ABSTRACT

In Carboneras Plant a chlorine bypass exists producing around 30 t/d of high chlorine and alkalis content dust. This high chlorine content, average 10 % picks up to 18 %, does not allow us to use the dust in the raw meal without a speci-fic treatment. Along the last years, the material captured in the electroprecipitator has been carried to a landfill. According to Holcim (España), S.A.´s environmental policies, different alter-natives to the landfill were studied.

Finally, we decided to accomplished a new facility where the bypass dust is diluted in water by using a mechanical process (agitation) in order to solve the salts on the water.

The generated slurry is passed through a press filter. After the press filter we have material with 30 % of water and with a lower content in salts that we introduce in the pri-mary crushing, and water with a high content of salt that we send to the sea (environmental permit). The salt content of the material captured at the press filter is about 2 % due to water content, when initially this content could reach up to 50 %.
