ABSTRACT

The possibilities of expansion of El Ferrol harbor, one of the most importants in the North of Spain, were very limited due to several reasons. Therefore, it was decided to build a new one in El Ferrol ria, closer to the Atlantic Ocean. The main features of the construction of the first phase are described in the article. Some of its most important parts are a dike, 1105 m long, were 330,000 cu m of concrete blocks have been used, and a dock, 858 m long, with 70,000 cu m of concrete caissons.
